US President Donald Trump approved a new US peace plan that would end the war in Ukraine. On Thursday night, NBC News reported about it, citing a high-ranking source from the White House, writes TASR.
- Donald Trump approved a new peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.
- The plan includes 28 points and consultations between the US, Russia and Ukraine.
- Trump associates, including Vice President JD Vance, were involved in the proposal.
- The plan includes security guarantees for Ukraine and limiting its military.
- The Kremlin has still not shown much interest in new peace negotiations.
This week, Trump approved a 28-point peace plan for peace between Russia and Ukraine, compiled by top officials of his administration over the past several weeks during consultations with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev and Ukrainian officials, the television station quoted an unnamed White House source as saying.
Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were involved in putting together the plan, the official added.
“The plan aims to provide security guarantees to both sides to ensure lasting peace,” cites NBC News. “It includes things that Ukraine wants and needs for lasting peace,” added the television. The source did not provide exact details of this plan, but it is believed to be still under negotiation with key stakeholders. Axios was the first to report on the existence of the plan.
Three other US officials told NBC News that the details of the peace deal had not yet been submitted to the Ukrainian side, and that the timing of the finalization of the draft plan coincided with a visit by a US military delegation to Ukraine on Wednesday.
The media reported on the proposals in the plan that Ukraine should give up part of its territory and limit the size of its military in exchange for security guarantees from the US. Although US efforts to revive peace talks appear to be gaining momentum, the Kremlin has so far shown no signs of changing the terms of the war’s end, NBC reports. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that contacts with the Americans are continuing, but that not enough has been done so far for a new summit to be held.
Ukraine was not involved in shaping the proposed peace plan, a source close to the Ukrainian government and a European official familiar with the matter said. According to these two sources, Kyiv has been briefed on the rough outlines of this plan.
