After the match on Thursday night (20) between Corinthians and São Paulo, for the Brazilian Championship, fans of both teams were involved in a widespread fight around Bixiga, in the central region of the capital of São Paulo.
Videos posted on social media by residents show groups of fans running through the streets, apparently fleeing fireworks.
The SSP (Public Security Secretariat) confirmed in a statement that the Military Police were called on Thursday night to respond to a fight involving Corinthians and São Paulo fans at Bixiga.
“The agents went to the location, but did not find those involved. To date, no victims have been located nor any police reports registered,” the agency said.
Since 2016, on the recommendation of the MP (Public Ministry), games in São Paulo in which two of the biggest teams in the state face each other —Corinthians, Palmeiras, São Paulo, Santos, Ponte Preta and Guarani— must be with a single fan base.
Experts point out, however, that the measure only removed clashes between organized fans from around the stadiums to the journeys to and from delegations and fans.
In October 2024, Cruzeiro fans were the target of an ambush by members of the organized Mancha Alviverde on the Fernão Dias highway. The attack resulted in the death of a fan of the Minas Gerais team.
In the duel between the two São Paulo teams on the field, played at the Neo Química Arena, in Itaquera, Corinthians won 3-1, with goals from Yuri Alberto (twice) and Memphis Depay, with Tapia scoring for the visitors.
