Throughout the year, millions of people look for alternatives to save fuel, especially due to the constant increase in its price. Saving a few liters by covering exactly the same kilometers has become a goal that unites practically all drivers. This summer, anyone who drives gasoline or diesel vehicles can save a significant amount of money by following a simple but effective piece of advice while they’re behind the wheel.
Financial expert Cameron Smith, known on TikTok as @cazzatime and cited by the British newspaper Express, stated that the most important trick to reduce consumption is to avoid speeding. As he explains, this change in behavior can reduce spending by up to around 25%.
The logic is simple: driving above the recommended limit increases air resistance, forces the engine to work much harder and, inevitably, increases consumption. Studies reveal that driving at 130 km/h can use around 25% more fuel than traveling at 110 km/h. On long trips, this difference can mean several liters saved and, consequently, more money available.
Aggressive acceleration doesn’t help
Smith also reinforces that accelerating suddenly and braking suddenly is a habit that should be avoided. These actions force the engine to use more energy and fuel. On the contrary, maintaining smooth and continuous driving, anticipating situations on the road, is considered one of the best ways to save.
Other recommendations
Among the basic tips for saving fuel, the expert, cited by the same source, also highlights the importance of keeping tires at the appropriate pressure, something that reduces friction and improves efficiency, removing unnecessary weight from the luggage compartment and using gears correctly, avoiding excessively high revs.
The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) recalls that, for several years, the speed of 90 km/h was considered the most economical. Currently, it is considered that the greatest efficiency is, on average, between 70 and 80 km/h, depending on the type of vehicle and road conditions.
Reduced costs with regular habits
By following these guidelines, any driver can, according to , reduce travel costs and, at the same time, contribute to a lower environmental impact.
Out of curiosity, you should also know that modern cars record higher consumption with the air conditioning on, and this equipment can increase consumption by between 5% and 10%, depending on the intensity used.
