The City Council filed a request for suspensive effect with the Court of Justice to prevent the release of the motorcycle taxi service from December 11th.

According to the city hall, the municipal decree “sought to protect the life and health of citizens and allow the creation of a working group to study and forward the appropriate regulation of the activity in a metropolitan context of exponential risk.”
Municipal management mentions that in 2024, 3,744 hospitalizations were recorded in municipal hospitals resulting from accidents involving motorcyclists, compared to 3,432 in 2023.
“The number of motorcyclist deaths in the capital increased by 20%, going from 403 deaths in 2023 to 483 in 2024. The motorcycle fleet in São Paulo grew exponentially, with a 56% jump in the last ten years”, he adds.
