Dark matter began as a stopgap for flaws in the universe’s gravity balance. The observation of visible matter in space – i.e. stars or clouds of gas and dust – only leads to the conclusion, based on the recognized cosmic theory, that there must be considerably more mass out there than can be directly determined.
