FBI identifies suspect in shooting at agents in Washington

The FBI has identified the suspect of shooting two members of the National Guard this Thursday (26), in Washington, in the US federal capital, according to police authorities.

HAS CNNauthorities said the Initial identification of the corresponds to a man from Washington state who appears to have immigrated to the United States from Afghanistan in 2021.

The FBI analyzed the fingerprints of the man in custody and arrived at the initial name, a law enforcement official added, noting they are still working on additional confirmations.

The suspect requested asylum in 2024, and this was granted earlier this year.

In a social media post, the state’s governor, Patrick Morrisey, said he and US President Donald Trump “stand by” the National Guard following the shooting, which he called an “indescribable act of violence.”

“We will continue to work to ensure justice is served,” Morrisey said.

Washington shooting

On the eve of Thanksgiving, a gunman opened fire and killed two National Guard members in Washington, D.C.’s Farragut Square — a tourist area located near a busy transportation hub and the White House.

According to police sources, the two National Guard members exchanged gunfire with the suspect before being shot.

Sources said the suspect was hit by gunfire and taken from the scene on a stretcher.

They were part of the National Guard troop that has been in the federal capital since August this year, as part of an action to repress crime promoted by American President Donald Trump.

After the shooting, the Republican leader asked to send him to Washington.

According to the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, the action “will strengthen our resolve to ensure that Washington, DC, is a safe place.”
