Argentine player says he was called a monkey in Bauru – 12/14/2025 – Sport

Argentine player Manuel Armoa Morel, 23, stated that he was called a monkey by a Sesi Bauru fan, in the interior of São Paulo, on Saturday night (13), and filed a police report.

Pointer of Guarulhos Volleyball, Morel was warming up right after the defeat to Sesi, by 3 sets to 2, in the Superliga, when a man started shouting: “mono [macaco] chora, mono chora”.

The Guarulhos board says that the athlete is deeply shaken and has committed to helping him, in addition to monitoring the case until the attacker is held criminally responsible, as required by law.

On the GE portal, the athlete says that the Bauru team fan repeated the phrase at least four times.

In a statement, Vôlei Guarulhos stated that members of the commission and other athletes tried to contain the attacker, who fled the scene.

“The license plate of the vehicle used by the perpetrator of the crime was noted and, immediately, our Technical Supervisor, Daniel Jorge Jr., went to the city police station to register a police report”, says the club.

Sesi Bauru also spoke out saying that it is trying to identify whoever is responsible for the act of racism.

“Once your involvement is confirmed, you will be banned from games and prevented from accessing any Sesi-SP unit, event or space, which is available to the police authorities to collaborate with the necessary clarifications,” said Sesi.

The CBV (Brazilian Volleyball Confederation), organizer of the competition, says it is collecting all the material from the match, such as the game delegate’s report, images and witness statements, to forward to the investigative bodies.

The report was unable to contact the player until the publication of this text.

Despite the defeat to Sesi, Morel was the game’s top scorer, with 29 points.
