ERSE confirms that electricity prices in the regulated market rise by 1% from January

ERSE confirmed an average increase of 1% in electricity tariffs for customers in the regulated market, from January 1, 2026. The increase translates into a monthly impact of between 0.20 and 0.37 euros on the bill.

“In the regulated market of mainland Portugal, transitional tariffs for sales to end customers in Low Normal Voltage (BTN) show, on average, a variation of 1.0%, in 2026”, it can be read.

On October 15, ERSE had presented its proposal to increase the price of electricity for families in the regulated market by 1% and the proposal was subject to an opinion from the Tariff Council.

According to the energy sector regulator, the proposed increase translates into a increase between 0.20 and 0.37 euros on the monthly billincluding fees and taxes.

Let’s go to the accounts?

From January onwards, considering a power of 3.45 kolovoltamperes(kVA) and a consumption of 1,900 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year for a couple without children, the total payable will be 36,82 eurosincluding fees and taxes (except tax ).

For a couple with two children, with a power of 6.9 kVA and a consumption of 5,000 kWh/year, the bill will be 95,03 euros (with fees and taxes). At the end of September 2025, 817,000 customers were in the regulated market.

“In the liberalized market, sales prices to end customers vary between suppliers and depend on the commercial offer contracted by the customer”, recalled ERSE.

O final price of electricity in the regulated and liberalized markets (whose prices vary between suppliers and depend on the contracted offer) include the value of network access feesregulated by ERSE.

Between December of this year and January 2026network access tariffs will vary by -2.9% at very high voltageof -0.8% at high voltageof 1.8% at medium voltageof 2.7% at special low voltage and of 3.5% at normal low voltage.

Next year, consumers with a social tariff will have a 33.8% discount.
