Ventura will lose voters – because “it’s a mistake to take people for fools all the time”

The unions were “leeches”. Then a “maybe” appeared. On the day of the strike, there were already reasons for discontent.

André Ventura I was against the general strike on December 11th. He said that unions are “leeches” because they do not solve problems; said that “we don’t need a general strike” because “a paralysis (…) is a error”.

Later, in a debate in the Assembly of the Republic, he commented in front of Luís Montenegro that “perhaps There are no reasons for a general strike, but there are reasons for general discontent”.

In , in a debate with Jorge Pinto, he said: “The strike is legitimate and there are reasons for widespread discontent in this matter and they are right, but we could have prevented it from happening”.

At that moment, Jorge Pinto (Livre) even said that André Ventura could join a union, or even be leader of the CGTP. “Welcome, comrade Ventura, to this fight” – in fact, Ventura even wanted to build a union from Chega himself.

On Friday, the president of Chega announced that his party, after all, will vote against the new labor package. This is if the Government changes ideas about dismissals and parenting.

Repeating other examples, André Ventura defended an idea, then softened that idea and in the end even ended up contradicting what he had said.

Nuno Gonçalo Poças highlights that Chega “doesn’t know what to do on some issues”. And therefore, there will be consequences: “Sooner or later, these things pay off, these quite contradictory fluctuations”.

On the radio, the lawyer reinforces that “it is not possible to be for and against the labor package, and to be for and against the general strike”.

Looking at the Chega’s ideological pathNuno recalls that the party, in the beginning, had a very liberal economic program and, in recent years, as voters noticed, it was having some difficulties in being faithful to that purpose; and “you’re doing this kind of feint, to try to benefit from it. In other words, gain votes.

But the warning remains: “At least from an economic point of view, the André Ventura, sooner or later, will have some difficulty in keeping the entire electorate that you already have. It is not possible to be everything and its opposite at the same time, without people, at a certain point, not noticing that.”

“You’re not right-wing because you’re against woke culture, that’s all. You’re not right-wing because you’re defending more regulated immigration, that’s all.”

Nuno Gonçalo Poças believes that Chega’s leader has not been able to be faithful to different principles and values. “When these things start to notice, you always return to the same themes so that these inconsistencies are less noticeable”.

Returning to the labor package, “no one really knows what André Ventura wants to do”.

And a politician’s convictions “cannot depend on elections”, he reinforces.

At a time when Chega’s electorate is so heterogeneous, “there will be voters dissatisfied with this or that issue. There may be a common denominator that makes people not give up their vote, and ignore these things – but I have my doubts, because It’s a mistake to take people for fools all the time. Inevitably, Ventura will end up suffering consequences because of this.”
