Lula signs Paulo Gonet’s reappointment to PGR command until 2027

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) informed on social media that he signed this Monday, 15th, the reappointment of Paulo Gonet to command the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). At X, Lula said he was convinced that Gonet would continue to carry out the management of the PGR with “firmness and responsibility”.

It was during his first term in the PGR that Gonet denounced former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for five crimes related to the attempted coup d’état after the 2022 elections. “Brazil needs seriousness, courage and commitment to the truth. It needs good investigation, responsible reporting and independence to act without fear of anyone”, stated the president.

The PGR’s new mandate begins on Friday, 19th, and runs until December 2027. The signing ceremony by Lula was held privately at Palácio do Planalto. The president and Gonet had an agenda scheduled at 2:40 pm this Monday.
