This Tuesday (16), the de approved a bill that authorizes the state government to enter into “naming rights” contracts for events and public spaces, through financial compensation from private companies.
With this, it will be possible to apply this modality in sports competitions, cultural events and leisure projects. The amount collected must be used to improve the benefited spaces and projects.
Today, this legislation already exists in some cities, but there was a lack of a unified state framework on the topic. The approved text, which now goes to the governor (Republicans) for approval, requires a bidding process, preserves the original name of public spaces and prohibits the commercial use of school and hospital facades.
“We are creating an opportunity for public bodies and entities to raise private resources and invest in improving infrastructure and services offered to the population. This law provides legal certainty for the public and private sectors to act together, efficiently and at no cost to the citizen”, says Siqueira.
