Cláudio Valente will be responsible for the death of Nuno Loureiro, also Portuguese and professor at MIT, in Brookline. It is suspected that he is also the author of the shooting at Brown University that killed two people.
Saturday, December 13th, 4:00 pm. Providence police receive a tip that there is a shooter in a Brown University building.
“I can confirm that two individuals died this afternoon and there are eight more in critical but stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital,” Brett Smiley, mayor of Providence, said at the time.
Timothy O’hara, from the Providence police, described the suspect: “The suspect is wearing dark clothing, you can’t see his face. Dark gray or black clothing and some of the witnesses also told us that he may be wearing a gray camouflage mask.”
After analyzing the video surveillance images, it was possible to track the suspect’s steps in the moments before this attack at the university.
During the morning, on that day, images are recorded between 10:30 am and 11 am. Around 3pm in the afternoon, the suspect was filmed on the outskirts of the building, where he shot more than 40 times and killed the two students.
At 4:03 pm, after the shooting, he left the place.
“The situation is terrible, and all we can do now is pray for the victims and those who were seriously injured, it seems, and we’ll be making updates, but it’s unfortunate,” said Donald Trump.
Several witnesses were questioned and after analyzing the images with the support of the FBI, the authorities arrested a suspect who, however, ended up being released.
During this investigation it was possible to find a suspicious vehicle. It had been rented in the name of Cláudio Manuel Neves Valente. This is where the Portuguese name appears for the first time.
The car was rented in downtown Boston on December 1st, when the first clear images of it also appeared. Cláudio handed over a driver’s license registered in Florida. Later, he changed the car’s registration number.
In a document from this investigation, consulted by SIC, it is stated that Valente studied at Brown University between 2000 and 2001, without currently holding any position within this institution.
After this attack, he headed from Providence to Boston, a journey of about an hour. It is in this city that, on December 15, Nuno Loureiro, a prominent Portuguese physicist and professor at MIT, was murdered.
He led the MIT Plasma and Fusion Science Center for almost two years. He was murdered at home. Nuno Loureiro was a college classmate of Cláudio Valente.
