Kiss nightclub: ex-member leaves prison with electronic ankle bracelet

Understand the case

In August, the four defendants in the Kiss nightclub case had their sentences reduced by the courts and progression to the semi-open regime authorized.

At the time, the 1st Special Criminal Chamber of the TJRS (Court of Justice of Rio Grande do Sul) maintained the validity of the jury, held in 2021, but reduced the defendants’ sentences.

The judges unanimously decided to impose a 12-year prison sentence on the club’s partners, Elissandro Callegaro Spohr and Mauro Londero Hoffmann. Previously, the sentences were 22 years and six months and 19 years and six months in prison, respectively.

Musician Marcelo de Jesus dos Santos and music producer Luciano Bonilha Leão had their sentences reduced to 11 years. They had previously been sentenced to 18 years each.

In 2021, they were convicted of homicide with possible intent for the deaths of 242 people and injuries to more than 600 victims, in the fire at the Kiss nightclub. The case occurred in 2013, in Santa Maria (RS).
