The far-right German party AfD criticizes the agreement of the leaders of the European Union on the provision of a 90 billion loan for Ukraine

Party co-chairs Alice Weidelová and Tino Chrupalla accused Chancellor Friedrich Merz of wasting taxpayers’ money on a conflict that, according to them, is already lost. The AfD argues that Russia will win the war and not pay any reparations

On Friday, the German party Alternative for Germany (AfD) condemned the European Union’s decision to grant an interest-free loan to Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros. AfD declared that Russia will win the war in Ukraine anyway and Germany should strive to return to favorable relations with Russia. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

  • The AfD party criticizes the EU loan for Ukraine.
  • The AfD claims that Russia will win the war and not pay reparations.
  • EU leaders approved a 90 billion interest-free loan.
  • Slovakia and other countries negotiated exceptions.
  • AfD is accused of a pro-Russian and populist stance.

Chrupalla: Russia will not pay any reparations after victory

EU leaders agreed on the loan for Ukraine on Friday night at the meeting of the European Council. The loan for a period of two years will be financed from the joint debt, which will be covered by the EU budget. Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary will be exempted from the joint debt program, which have negotiated an exemption.

AfD co-presidents Alice Weidelová and Tino Chrupalla criticized Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who has been pushing for an increase in EU financial support for Ukraine for a long time.

“Chancellor Merz is wasting German taxpayers’ money on a hopeless war. Russia will not pay any reparations after victory,” Chrupalla said in a press release.

Weidelová: The chancellor is spending billions to prolong the senseless war

Weidel added that the money “will be swallowed up by one of the most corrupt states in the world.” “While his own country is falling apart and in economic decline, the chancellor is spending billions to prolong a senseless war,” Weidel said. According to her, Germany should instead strive for a “return to favorable relations with Russia.”

Other German parties have repeatedly accused the anti-immigration AfD of taking on Kremlin propaganda and acting as a Trojan horse for Russian interests. Within the AfD in the past period, there have been conflicts between those who defend radical pro-Russian positions and those who are inspired mainly by the approach of US President Donald Trump, reports AFP.
