What would a Christmas table be without a gorgeous themed tablecloth? Maybe you choose snow white, maybe green, someone leans towards red. At least once a year we cover the table in the snow to create something special. But is it necessary? Interior designers have a different opinion.
If you also think that Christmas Eve feasting simply wouldn’t do without a huge tablecloth, it might be time to flip through magazines with current trends in this area. Maybe we’d hit a deadline tablescapingwhich is a decorative, even artistic treatment of the concept of table decoration, which, as a result, elevates dining to the very part of the entire composition. It’s not just about plates and cutlery, but about the interplay of everything that appears on the table – colour, shape and space.

Let the table top stand out
While we perceive the classic tablecloth more as a covering to cover possible table top flaws, more modern trends focus instead on improving its quality. If we have a table made of wood, stone or concrete, it is almost a crime to try to cover it with a tablecloth. Such materials are directly destined to become the basic decoration of the evening. Therefore, if we want to choose textiles, let’s use smaller areas this time, that is, especially quality cloth napkins.
Use a tread instead
When preparing the festive board, let’s focus on , i.e. in the length of the table. We can use treadwhich creates a dominant line and visually stretches the table in length. Try to find a material that will also create an interesting textural basis for other decorations. This allows us to achieve a modern but at the same time cultured look of the table without unnecessary pathos.
Napkin selection strategy
We have already mentioned napkins, but we can also play with them this year. Instead of a uniform color, let’s try to work with the harmony of disparity. Mix fabrics and colors, complement coarse fabrics (eg jute) with soft material. We approach each napkin as a piece of art. Instead of the classic placing next to the plate, we can roll them up, wrap them with a ribbon and decorate them with, for example, a sprig of eucalyptus.
Rustic elegance
Although it is certain that each of us can arrange our table in such a way that he himself is comfortable at it, on a general level, two completely different trends prevail this year. He is the first sustainable which emphasizes the ecologically “correct” and completely natural materials. Instead of shiny polyester, let’s choose muted earthy tones and let’s think of decorations rather as solitary details.
Maximalism in dark colors
The absolute opposite to the described natural-minimalist blackboard is dramatic maximalism. Let’s forget about classic colors, here they will play the main role deep tones of blue, emerald green and burgundy. Let’s soak in the gothic atmosphere, which we’ll highlight with metal accessories, brass-colored cutlery and candlesticks with classic tall candles. Textile can be the basis in this case, but it is advisable to choose velvet, satin and other heavy materials.
Become a scenographer for Christmas
In 2025, in short, the Christmas table can happen a small theater stageon which exactly what you are thinking about will take place. Will it be a pleasant village meeting of neighbors or a feast at a mysterious castle?
