The pastor came out in defense of the federal deputy (PL-RJ), the target of an operation investigating suspicions of deviations in the parliamentary quota. In videos published on social media this Friday (19), Malafaia stated that the investigation was politically motivated and classified the action as persecution of the parliamentarian’s performance in Congress.

“Everything is a setup to denigrate. Relentless persecution of the right. They want to silence everyone who stands up against Lula, Alexandre de Moraes or the Federal Supreme Court,” said the pastor in a video posted on his profile on X (see below).

Malafaia’s political godson, Sóstenes was praised by the pastor, who assessed the deputy’s stance towards the investigation as correct. “That’s how it’s done, Sóstenes. Those who don’t deserve it, don’t fear it. They come out in public and start to break down. Those who remain silent are the corrupt left that runs away”, he stated.

In the same statement, Malafaia demanded investigations against allies of the federal government and cited cases involving the National Social Security Institute (), family members of President Luiz Inácio da Silva (PT) and the minister’s wife for his million-dollar contract with the . According to him, there would be unequal treatment by the authorities. “With others, they break. With others, they protect”, he said, when criticizing the Supreme Court’s decisions.

Still on social media, the pastor raised his tone and provoked minister Alexandre de Moraes. “Do you want to arrest me? The persecution you do to silence me, to intimidate me, I’m not afraid of that. You can have me arrested. I fear God”, he declared.

The Federal Police states that public agents, commissioned employees and private individuals acted in a coordinated manner to divert and hide public resources from the parliamentary quota. According to the investigation, the scheme involved payments to a car rental company that, according to investigators, would function as a shell company to return money to the office.

During the operation, the PF seized R$430,000 in cash at an address linked to deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante, in . The parliamentarian stated that the amount is legal and would originate from the sale of a property.

Sóstenes also denied irregularities in the hiring of the car rental company that provides services to his office, one of the main focuses of the investigation.

The investigations also indicate that an advisor linked to the deputy handled R$11 million in debts and R$11 million in credits, amounts considered incompatible with his income. According to the PF, he would be one of those responsible for operationalizing deviations from the parliamentary quota.
