Gunpowder it’s kind of green tea. The name comes from the appearance of the leaves, which are tightly rolled and may resemble gunpowder. Gunpowder green tea is produced in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, located on the eastern coast of the Middle Kingdom. The product in question is characterized by: quite a specific taste – a bit tart and slightly herbal, although a lot depends on the brewing method.
Gunpowder green tea contains antioxidants – compounds that support the reduction of free radicals in the body. Additionally, it may have anti-inflammatory properties and contribute to the detoxification of the body. Moreover, pita bread regularly contributes to boosting metabolism. Green tea can too support the functioning of the cardiovascular system and demonstrate beneficial effect on the kidneys.
Some people may wonder what is the difference between gunpowder green tea and sencha?. The gunpowder species is characterized by a specific production process – the leaves are rolled very tightly, as a result of which they resemble gunpowder. In turn, sencha, which is extremely popular in Japan, is made from leaves heated by steam.
Both teas also differ in taste. Gunpowder is characterized by intensity, astringency i herbal aftertaste. Sencha, on the other hand, has a more delicate and refreshing taste, with delicate notes of fruit.

How should you brew gunpowder green tea? Pour about half a teaspoon of tea into a standard cup and then pour water at a temperature of 75-80 degrees Celsius. The whole thing should be brewed for about 2-3 minutes. You should watch the time, because exceeding it will make the drink much more bitter. After brewing the tea, separate the leaves from the infusion.
Importantly – gunpowder is suitable for re-infusion. However, you should not brew it more than 3 times. What’s more – each subsequent brewing process must be extended by approximately 30 seconds compared to the previous one.
