The Lisbon Court of Appeal confirmed the two-year suspended prison sentence for Hélio Filipe, for stealing 10 euros from a man he attacked, next to a nightclub in Torres Vedras. Defense had appealed the decision, to benefit from a pardon for the arrival of Pope Francis to Portugal.
The case dates back to 2016. As , Hélio Filipe He worked as a security guard at nightclubs and as a security guard at shows and sports venues.

Even so, Hélio Filipe did not escape a prison sentence suspended for two years, for the theft of 10 euros, having also to pay 500 euros to the victim, during the period of suspended sentence.
According to the morning newspaper, the defense had appealed the court’s decision, indicating that Hélio should benefit from a pardon of the sentence with the arrival of Pope Francis to Portugal, on the occasion of World Youth Day in Portugal.
However, the Lisbon Court of Appeal understood that this request should have been made to the court of first instance (Court of Loures), confirming the two-year suspended sentence. The judges also confirmed that Rita Matias’ husband must pay compensation of 500 euros to the victim.
