David Daiber, 18, made his debut this Sunday in Bayern Munich’s first team. “We knew we could trust him”, says the coach, Vicent Kompany, about the young man of Portuguese origins who is compared to Kimmich and has already been praised by Müller.
There is another Portuguese making his way at Bayern Munich. In the Bavarians’ last game, which beat Heidenheim 4-0, David Daiber came on in the 72nd minute to replace compatriot Raphael Guerreiro. The 18-year-old made his debut for the German giants’ first team.
Born in Luxembourg on January 10, 2007, David Michael Santos Daiber moved to Germany at a young age, where he lived most of his life. But he did not forget his Portuguese origins and chose to defend Portugal’s colors at youth level, having already won 20 caps.
Bayern’s defensive midfielder played this season against Sporting, in the UEFA Youth League, in which he was captain of the German team.
“We knew we could trust him”
In Germany, David Daiber is praised for his leadership, passing quality and game vision. The official website of the Bundesliga, the country’s main football league, compares the Portuguese to Joshua Kimmich, one of the best midfielders in the world.
Daiber also stands out for his physical aspect: he is still growing, but he is already 1.85m tall. Thomas Müller, Bayern legend, was already captivated by the young midfielder’s speed. “It’s the fastest I’ve ever seen,” said the now Vancouver Whitecaps player during training.
“We knew we could trust him,” said Bayern coach Vicent Kompany after David Daiber’s first-team debut.
