The ECB is ready to intervene again if necessary, says Kazimir

FRANKFURT, Dec 22 (Reuters) – The ‍European Central Bank is pleased with the ‍inflation outlook in the euro zone but is ready to ‌intervene again if necessary, ECB monetary policymaker Peter Kazimir said on Monday.

He joined a host of central bank governors from all corners of the 20-nation bloc to warn of risks to the benign projections the ECB released on Thursday as it kept interest rates stable for a fourth consecutive meeting.

“The coming year will likely bring new challenges to which households, businesses and indeed our monetary policy will have to respond,” said Kazimir, president of the Slovak Central Bank, in an opinion piece.

‘We remain flexible and ‌ready to intervene should future developments warrant further action,’ he added.

Kazimir said ‍the economic foundations of the euro zone were ‘showing cracks’ that ‌other monetary policymakers should fix‍with structural reforms that would integrate European capital markets and ‘reduce the bureaucratic burden’ on companies.
