For many, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the biggest name in the history of bodybuilding – in fact, the Hollywood star took the sport to heights never before thought. Others point to Ronnie Coleman as the physical peak of the human being and say that no one will reach the levels of volume and definition of the “King”.
While Schwarzenegger won the Olympia – the most important bodybuilding championship in the world – seven times, Coleman won eight titles in the competition.
Both are routinely considered the two most important bodybuilders in history. However, both the former California governor and the former police officer had questionable titles on the most renowned stage on the planet. While many fans believe that Mike Mentzer should have been Olympia champion in 1980, the year in which Schwarzenegger won his seventh Sandow, experts point out that the 2002 Olympia – in which Coleman had his fifth victory – should have been won by Kevin Levrone or Günter Schlierkamp.
Before Coleman, Lee Haney had already accomplished the feat of winning eight Olympia titles in a row – at the time, he even broke the record that belonged to Schwarzenegger. The difference is that none of his Sandows were questioned.
Haney absolutely dominated bodybuilding’s biggest stages between 1984 and 1991. During that time, no one came close to beating him. Therefore, despite not being highlighted as the greatest bodybuilder of all time, it is undeniable to say that he was, in fact, the most dominant Mister Olympia in history.
Born in 1959 in Georgia, United States, the athlete made his debut at the Olympia in 1983 and has already finished third. After that, he was champion of the tournament eight times in a row and retired from the sport, giving space for Dorian Yates to begin his reign.
