New Middle East office announced for mid-2026, until then El-Gawhary will still be Middle East correspondent
Karim El-Gawhary in a “ZiB Spezial” program about “Middle East – The Roots of the Conflict”.
The ORF confirmed on Tuesday evening that Karim El-Gawhary will only work for him as a Middle East correspondent until mid-2026. After that, the long-time Middle East correspondent will continue to report from Egypt for ORF as a freelancer. The ORF will open a new Middle East office in mid-2026. The ORF essentially confirmed – with the exception of continued employment as a freelancer – what the STANDARD and other media have already reported in the past few days.
