SP: Court upholds arrest of man who threw traffic officer

During a custody hearing this Tuesday (23), the São Paulo Court decided to convert the arrest into preventive custody of Leorogers Andrade, 29 years old, suspected of running over his ex-wife and throwing a traffic officer from a Rodoanel viaduct, on Avenida Papa João XXIII, in Mauá, Greater São Paulo, on Monday (22).

The server, identified as Nelson Nonato da Silva, aged 45, was run over by a Hyundai HB20 while trying to help Camila Aparecida Montoro Cruz, aged 28, who had allegedly been attacked by Leorogers.

Judge Eduardo Giorgetti Peres, on duty at the 03rd Civil Division of the District of Santo André, stated that the man’s arrest is necessary to “ensure the application of criminal law”, because the release of the accused could “cause fear to the victim” and would hinder the progress of the investigations.

Furthermore, the magistrate argues that, because he kept Camila in private prison, he violently attacked her during a short period of relationship and because of the level of severity of the death of a worker who was trying to help the couple.

In the decision, the judge points out that the suspect had tried to blame the victims and had “demonstrated a violent personality”.

During police interrogation, the accused showed evasive behavior, trying to blame the victims of the events, demonstrating a violent and crime-oriented personality, making the arrest necessary to guarantee public order, to ensure the credibility of justice and prevent new infractions from being committed, guaranteeing the effectiveness and efficiency of the process.
