President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated this Tuesday that the American government’s tariff on imports of Brazilian products had an “irrelevant” impact and that he and the leader of the United States, Donald Trump, became friends.
Lula analyzed the economic scenario during a ceremony at the Palácio do Planalto to sign the decree that recognizes gospel music as a cultural manifestation.
— The year ends well. The price of food is falling, people are returning to accessing things that have become more expensive. Even the taxation that the United States carried out against Brazil ended up being irrelevant – he stated this Tuesday.

On November 20, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the removal of the 40% import tariff on some Brazilian products such as coffee, tea, fruit juices, cocoa, bananas, oranges, tomatoes and beef. Trump says the decision was made after a telephone conversation with President Lula.
After that, the Palácio do Planalto started to insist on negotiations so that tariffs on other exports could be removed and the Magnitsky Law sanctions could be revoked.
In addition to a face-to-face meeting in Malaysia, Lula and Trump spoke on the phone twice this year, during a move towards rapprochement between the leaders of the two countries following the tensions caused by tariffs and Magnitsky Act sanctions.
— When many people imagined that Trump and I would go to war, we ended up becoming friends — said Lula during the event at Palácio do Planalto.
