Toffoli marks a confrontation between Vorcaro, former president of the BRB and director of the BC

Minister Dias Toffoli, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), ordered a confrontation between the owner of Banco Master, Daniel Vorcaro, the former president of BRB Paulo Henrique Costa and the director of Inspection at the Central Bank, Ailton de Aquino Santos. The statements will take place next Tuesday, the 30th, as part of the investigation that investigates suspected irregularities involving the Master.

The information was revealed by the portal Poder360 and confirmed by Globo.

The objective is for the versions about the attempted purchase of Master by BRB, vetoed by the Central Bank, to be compared.

Ten days ago, Toffoli had ordered preliminary steps in the investigation to be carried out immediately. The decision establishes an initial period of 30 days for the Federal Police to hear those being investigated, upon presentation of documents, and also directors of the Central Bank on issues related to the institution’s activities and possible developments in other companies in the sector.

The designated delegate may request information from public bodies and companies and present individual requests to breach telephone, telematic, tax or correspondence confidentiality, as long as they are duly justified. The hearings may take place via videoconference or in person at the STF, with recording and monitoring by assistant magistrates from the minister’s office.

Toffoli also ordered that the Attorney General of the Republic be sent to appoint a deputy attorney to participate in the proceedings, in addition to communicating the decision to the director general of the Federal Police.

The case of Banco Master gained repercussions after the launch of Operation Compliance Zero, which investigates an alleged scheme for issuing and trading unbacked credit securities, known as “rotten”. These papers would have been sold to other financial institutions, including Banco de Brasília (BRB).

The inquiry reached the Supreme Court after seized documents mentioned a federal deputy, which attracted the Court’s jurisdiction because of the privileged forum. From then on, the investigations were temporarily halted until Minister Dias Toffoli took over as rapporteur and determined new steps.
