“Now, we have to wait for the anesthesia to return,” wrote the former first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro
Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro announced, through her social media profiles, that surgery for former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is over. “Surgery completed successfully. No complications”, wrote Michelle. “Now, we have to wait for the anesthesia to return”, he concluded.
The reserve captain underwent a procedure to correct abdominal hernias and intestinal loops. The surgery was performed by surgeon Cláudio Birolini’s team and lasted around 3h30.
Letter to Brazilians
Hours before the procedure, the former president released a letter reiterating his support for the pre-candidacy of his eldest son, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
In the text, entitled “Letter to Brazilians”, Bolsonaro justifies the choice as a measure to prevent the “popular will from being silenced” in the face of what he classifies as a “scenario of injustice”.
“I have made the decision to nominate Flávio Bolsonaro as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026. I hand over the most important thing in the life of a father, his own son, to the mission of rescuing ours”, says an excerpt from the document read by Flávio. The former president also states that the decision is “conscious, legitimate and supported by the desire to preserve the representation” of his electorate.
According to the senator, the release of the document seeks to unify the allied base and dispel doubts about the opposition leadership. “I believe that we need to take back the responsibility of leading Brazil with justice”, wrote the former president.
Surgical procedure
The reading took place moments before Jair Bolsonaro was sent to the surgical center to correct abdominal hernias and intestinal loops. Flávio Bolsonaro explained that, technically, there are two simultaneous procedures, which would bring the number of surgeries carried out by his father to nine since the attack he suffered in 2018.
According to the parliamentarian, the medical team opted for a less invasive and more superficial technique to avoid additional risks to the abdominal cavity, which has already undergone multiple interventions. The operation is expected to last around three hours.
Bolsonaro’s clinical condition is stable. The senator reported that his father woke up calmly and without the hiccups that bothered him the day before. He is accompanied at the hospital by his wife, , and son.
