Emulating the rite of official pronouncement by the President of the Republic on Christmas Eve, the former first lady () released this Wednesday (24) a speech that addressed the need for renewal and cited “betrayals, even if they come from those closest to us”.
Hours later, on Thursday morning (25), one of Michelle’s stepsons, the senator (PL-RJ), confirmed the support of his father, the former president (PL), for his pre-candidacy for the Presidency.
Michelle’s speech took place at the same time as the president’s (PT) Christmas address. was preceded by the call that “the National Radio and Television Network is formed at this moment for the President of the Republic’s speech”, Michelle emulated: “the national network of good people who will transform lives and build the nation is now formed”.
Lula spoke of a difficult year, but in which “everyone who supported or played against Brazil ended up losing”, a message that may refer, among other possibilities, to the speech that recovers the victory of democracy over convicted coup plotters, including former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Michelle also alluded to the topic, citing a despised family, in a scenario of coldness and “evil of some people”, in reference to the birth of Jesus. She spoke of the need to be “born again” and to renew dreams.
The former first lady’s message was marked by religious content, with images of people with disabilities, one of the former first lady’s areas of activity, and of Bolsonarist protesters.
Jair Bolsonaro’s participation in the video was more restrained, with a first shot alongside Michelle and a painting of the former president created by artist Romero Britto.
Bolsonaro also appeared in scenes in the hospital, narrated by the former first lady as a moment of ordeal, when she cries.
In the end, the politician is briefly mentioned as leader and is recovered as Michelle’s “Galician”, in reference to the politician’s physical characteristics, a speech with a focus on aesthetics often relegated to women in politics and common in the former first lady’s public speeches about her husband.
She also spoke about next year’s presidential elections as “very important for the country” and cited “betrayals, even if they come from those closest to us.”
“The year that will soon begin is very important for our country and especially for the future of our families. Don’t let yourselves be discouraged by evil, persevere despite betrayals, even if they come from those closest to you. Move forward leaving disappointments aside and always believe that everything, absolutely everything, is in the command of our beloved God”, he stated.
The former first lady does not mention any of her stepchildren in the video, including Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), nominated by her father to run for President, since Jair is in prison and ineligible.
This Thursday, Flávio read a letter signed by his father, who is in the hospital undergoing surgery, in which the former president is a pre-candidate.
In the text, the former president speaks of “continuity” and cites battles he would be facing, as shown by Sheet. “Faced with this scenario of injustice, and with the commitment to not allow the popular will to be silenced, I have taken the decision to nominate Flávio Bolsonaro as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026”, says Bolsonaro in the letter.
The letter was made public after the former president canceled an interview with the Metrópoles portal, which would take place on December 23, and in which he could reinforce support for Flávio. According to columnist Mônica Bergamo, the interview was canceled due to resistance from around the politician, including Michelle.
She and her stepchildren recently experienced a public uproar over PL decisions regarding the 2026 elections, such as the possibility of supporting Ciro Gomes (PSDB) to run for government of Ceará.
This Thursday, Jair Bolsonaro undergoes surgery to correct an inguinal hernia, a condition in which tissue in the abdomen swells and causes a bulge to appear in the groin area.
