The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, shared on social media a publication by senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and gave international visibility to the Bolsonaro supporters’ attempt to maintain the parliamentarian’s pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026. The move comes after former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) signed a letter declaring support for his son on the same day he underwent surgery in Brasília.

Before the surgical procedure, Flávio was at DF Star Hospital, where Bolsonaro is hospitalized, and publicly read the letter written by the former president. The content was disseminated on social media and had repercussions among close allies. The initiative, however, had limited reach within the right-wing camp. Although cited by Bolsonarian politicians, the letter did not generate significant support in other conservative sectors or in Centrão, which remain divided over the presidential succession.

In this context, the repost made by Javier Milei on X caught the attention of Bolsonaro’s supporters. The Argentine president shared the video in which Flávio reads the letter, a gesture interpreted by Bolsonarists as a sign of political and ideological alignment. “I received with great emotion the letter from my father, which carries faith, trust and responsibility. The challenge is great, but with his blessing and God’s protection, we will continue on the right path for Brazil”, says the senator’s publication reposted by Milei.

In another post, when republishing content from right-wing journalist and influencer Eduardo Menoni, Flávio wrote in Spanish: “Let’s free Brazil and all of South America. Socialism never again! Enough!” Bolsonaro’s letter was written before he entered the surgical center. In the text, the former president claims to deliver “the most important thing in a father’s life” by entrusting his son with the mission of “rescuing Brazil”, in a statement with biblical references.

Milei’s attitude was celebrated by allies of the Bolsonaro family. Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), Flávio’s brother, celebrated the repost. “Come on!!!! Gracias, Milei”, he wrote, when publishing flags of Brazil and Argentina.

Other Bolsonarian parliamentarians also spoke out. Representative Mario Frias (PL-SP) stated that Flávio “receives not a position, but a mission”, while Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), leader of the opposition in the Senate, declared his support for the senator, despite internal differences on the right over the 2026 presidential race.

Jair Bolsonaro underwent surgery lasting around four hours to treat a bilateral inguinal hernia, resulting from a stab wound suffered during the 2018 election campaign. According to a medical report, the procedure was uneventful. Serving a sentence for an attempted coup d’état, the former president must remain hospitalized for five to seven days and may undergo a new procedure next week to treat hiccups.
