The President of the United States, Donald Trump, used the Christmas message released this Wednesday (25) to mix wishes for happy holidays with political attacks on opponents and trans people. The publication was made on the social network Truth Social, a platform created by the president himself. In the message, the Republican wished “Merry Christmas to everyone, including the scum of the radical left”, accusing opponents of trying to “destroy the country”, without success. The president also reiterated criticism of inclusion policies, stating that his government ended the participation of trans women in women’s sports, programs aimed at trans people and what he called “weak application of the law”.
Trump also cited measures to tighten immigration policy, highlighting the closure of borders. This week, the American government announced the offer of a financial bonus for irregular immigrants who voluntarily leave the country during the Christmas period.
In a tone of assessment, the president praised economic and security indicators. According to him, the United States is recording Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 4.3%, financial markets at record levels, zero inflation, falling crime and strengthening national security. Trump also stated that the trade tariffs adopted by his administration generated “trillions of dollars” in economic growth.
At the end of the message, the president declared that the country was once again respected on the international stage “perhaps like never before” and concluded with the phrase: “God bless America”.
In the same period, Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, participated in a traditional American Christmas event by answering, by telephone, children who were following the NORAD “Santa Claus Tracker”, a joint initiative of the United States and Canadian Armed Forces that simulates the good old man’s trip around the world. During the conversation, the president made joking comments about safety and praised children who said what they would like to get for Christmas.
Christmas messages with political content and attacks on opponents had already been adopted by Trump in previous years, maintaining the pattern of using commemorative dates to reinforce ideological positions and highlight actions by his government.
