The government wants to start the legislative year, in February, resuming negotiations with the law and is already considering proposing a veto to the proposal if it considers that it weakens the fight against crime, says the Secretary of Legislative Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, .
The project was approved in the Chamber in November, amid a clash between the government (PT) and the rapporteur, (PP-SP), criticized for presenting six versions of his opinion. In the opinion of the president’s allies, the Chamber’s text would favor organized crime. In the Senate, the rapporteur of the proposal, (MDB-SE), went so far as to say that there were sections considered unconstitutional in the text validated by the deputies.
Marivaldo praises Vieira’s work and states that he “corrected the serious mistakes contained in the Chamber’s report would substantially benefit the organized climate”.
“Deputy Derrite’s report is a testament to the most absolute lack of knowledge about how the system for combating criminal organizations works”, states the secretary. He also says he hopes that, if the former Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo is confirmed in the rapporteur again in the Chamber, the parliamentarian will be willing to dialogue with the government. “If a rapporteur is not willing to engage in this dialogue, perhaps he is not the best suited to lead the rapporteurship of this project.”
For Marivaldo, the unanimous approval of the project in the Senate demonstrates that not even the opposition agrees with the work that was done in the Chamber. “We cannot work with a proposal that creates an opportunity for leaders of criminal factions to file successive appeals to avoid their punishment”, he argues. “Not even the son of the former president [em referência ao senador ] voted against Senator Alessandro Vieira’s report. I think it’s a very important reflection.”
The secretary states that the government will not agree to any form of relaxation in the fight against organized crime. “President Lula’s guidance is for us to have a rigorous fight against criminal organizations and if a bill arrives that benefits criminal organizations, there is no doubt that we will propose a veto”, he states.
