Lula and Alcolumbre resume relationship after breakup – 12/26/2025 – Politics

The presidents of the Republic, Luiz Inácio da Silva (), and of , (União-AP), spoke again after weeks apart. The relationship between the two did not return to the same closeness that it had for most of 2025, but it improved, the report found. Sheet.

Alcolumbre was Lula’s main ally in the Legislature throughout the year, but since the (Federal Supreme Court). The president of the Senate and other important politicians in the House wanted the chosen one to be the senator (-MG).

The separation between Alcolumbre and the Executive was so intense that the senator stopped speaking to the government leader in the Senate, (PT-BA), one of Lula’s direct representatives in the Legislature.

Lula did this in recent weeks to lower the temperature. Senators such as (PDT-MA), Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), (PSD-BA), Eduardo Braga (-AM), (MDB-AL) and (PT-AP) participated in an effort to bring the two presidents closer together.

The PT member spoke with Alcolumbre by phone at the end of last week. The call was a kind of preview for a face-to-face meeting held a few days later, in Brasília.

Lula thanked the president of the Senate for the projects of interest to the government approved by the Legislature. The PT member had already been making statements to this effect publicly.

The president also sounded out Alcolumbre about the climate for Messias’ nomination, but this part of the conversation had no conclusion. It will be necessary to wait for the Legislative’s work to resume in February for a more precise assessment.

Lula indicated the –Messiah will only take over as minister of the STF if approved by the senators.

The PT member used the delay in sending the documents to . If it were held on December 10, Messiah would be at risk of rejection. Allies of both Lula and Alcolumbre see this rapprochement as a step prior to unlocking the formal nomination process.

The PT member also took advantage of the conversation with the president of the Senate to ask about the possibility of Rodrigo Pacheco, a friend of Alcolumbre, running for government of Minas Gerais. The head of government heard, again, that the senator from Minas Gerais is not willing to run for office.

Lula is looking for a strong candidate for governor to ally with in Minas Gerais, which is the second most populous state in Brazil. The PT member believes that Pacheco would be a competitive name, hence the insistence — even after being informed that the senator does not want to run.

Frictions between the government and the Legislature at the end of this year were also aggravated by communication campaigns from Lula’s party. Senators complained behind the scenes and reported that one of those most bothered by the situation was Alcolumbre.

The president of the Senate, for example, after the head of government said that the Legislature had, the main mechanism used by deputies and senators to send money for works in their electoral bases.
