O PP (Progressives) is considering launching its own candidate for the government of São Paulo in 2026, said members of the party’s leadership, with reservations. Thus, the party would be out of a coalition led by governor Tarcísio de Freitas seeking re-election.
Among the names probed for the dispute are Ricardo Sallesfederal deputy and former Minister of the Environment; Pablo Marçalwho ran for mayor of the capital in 2024; in addition to Filipe Sabaráformer state secretary.
In favor of the latter I would play the proximity to Flávio BolsonaroPL pre-candidate for Palácio do Planalto. Sabará has been organizing and promoting agendas of Jair Bolsonaro’s firstborn with businesspeople and investors in São Paulo in recent weeks.
The party leadership in São Paulo indicates that one of the reasons for launching its own candidacy would be a “growing discontent” with Tarcísio.
Leaders say that mayors and parliamentarians have been complaining about “lack of attention” of Palácio dos Bandeirantes and distance between the São Paulo government and the interests of the party.
Another complaint has been the lack of more incisive support from Tarcísio de Freitas for the pre-candidacy of Guilherme Derrite (PL)his former Secretary of Public Security, to the Federal Senate in 2026.
Furthermore, the party believes that, with one of the names surveyed, it could support its candidates for federal and state deputy.
