After further setbacks, he definitively focused only on work, until Olga Škopková († 40), a charming doctor specializing in psychiatry, entered his life. Olga was later diagnosed with cancer, and despite all the efforts of doctors and those closest to her, she succumbed to it in 2007. Jan devotedly took care of her until the end and then gradually disappeared from public life.
