Volodymyr Zelenskyy received the support of European leaders before negotiations with the USA

Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with European leaders the support of peace negotiations. They emphasized the necessity of cooperation with the US in achieving a just peace in Ukraine.

Before his meeting with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke on the phone with European allies on Saturday, who again promised to support his country in its efforts for peace. The DPA and AFP agencies informed about it, writes TASR.

“Eleven heads of state and government from Europe and Canada, as well as the top representatives of NATO and the EU, assured Ukraine of their full support and emphasized that they will work in close coordination with the US for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine,” said the spokesman of the German government.

Trump will receive Zelensky in Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, the Ukrainian president stopped in Canada on his way to the United States, from where he graduated with members of the so-called of the Berlin group a video call on the current state of negotiations on the American peace plan.

Europe wants to join the negotiations

After the conversation, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that Europeans must be fully involved in the relevant negotiations, Elysee Palace officials said. Macron described last night’s large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine as proof of “Russia’s determination to prolong the war it has started.”

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the peace agreement must preserve the sovereignty of Ukraine. According to her, the European Commission in 2026 will continue to put pressure on the Kremlin, persist in supporting Kyiv and work intensively on “accompanying Ukraine on its path to EU membership.” Strengthening the security and defense of Ukraine is an integral part of the security of the European continent, she added.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who organized the video call, said that Zelenskyi has the full support of European leaders and Canada.

The President of the European Council, António Costa, warned that the EU is ready to impose further sanctions on Russia if necessary. “A strong and prosperous Ukraine in the EU is a basic security guarantee. We continue to work on a stable and lasting peace for Ukraine in close cooperation with our partners from the US,” he added.
