New opposition leader says Motta’s situation is difficult – 12/31/2025 – Panel

The new leader of the opposition in , federal deputy Cabo Gilberto Silva (PL-PB) says that the situation in (-PB) is difficult and uncomfortable, given what he sees as an institutional crisis caused by the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

“The president is in a very difficult situation. He is commanding the Chamber of Deputies in this institutional crisis never seen in the country’s history”, says the deputy, promising to demand that Motta take a firm stance against the Supreme Court.

Silva says that the opposition will present a new bill to amnesty former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the others convicted of the January 8, 2023 attacks next year, in addition to yet another impeachment request against STF minister Alexandre de Moraes — this time for the , as revealed by O Globo.

The deputy also states that there is no doubt that Congress will overturn the proposal that reduces the punishment of coup plotters.

Silva says that he and Motta have no problem in Paraíba and will “work in the best possible way”. While Silva works for the election of federal deputy and former Minister of Health Marcelo Queiroga (PL) as senator, Motta campaigns for his father, the mayor of Patos, .

“[A situação no estado] there’s no problem at all. We will work impartially. He is from our state, Paraíba. But the president’s situation is not comfortable due to this institutional crisis”, says Silva, who replaces his colleague Zucco (PL-RS) in the leadership of the opposition.
