What price increases will the year 2026 bring to Catalonia? | News from Catalonia

The year 2026 starts with a January slope that is expected to be steep for most budgets. Expenses on housing, food or transportation announce a greater increase than salaries can grow. The but breaks the downward spiral. The forecasts rule out major scares with the cost of mortgages, although that is a minor consolation for a real estate market that remains with sky-high prices.

Tolls

The tolls that still remain in Catalonia will be more expensive in the new year, about 3% more. In the Vallvidrera tunnels the bill will rise to 4.70 euros, 14 cents more, and will exceed 5 euros at peak times. The Cadí Tunnel will be 40 cents more expensive (14.5 euros per vehicle) and to cover the 20 kilometers between Castelldefels and Sitges on the Pau Casals highway, in Garraf, you will have to pay 8.42 euros. There, residents who have mandatory mobility status will pay half.

Public transport

The prices paid in the metropolitan area of Barcelona are also updated. The T-Usual – the most used title, which allows unlimited trips for a month – goes from 22 to 22.80 euros and the T-Casual, which entitles you to ten trips, goes from 12.55 to 13 euros. The single ticket, which was worth 2.65 euros, jumps to 2.90.

In Barcelona the price is also higher, from 2.75 to 2.80 euros.

At Rodalies the problem is not usually the price, but the reliability of the service. In any case, the flat rate of 20 euros is maintained and will coexist with the new monthly subscription of 60 euros (30 euros for those under 26 years of age).

Bicing

Bicing subscriptions remain the same, but prices per trip increase, which in the case of electric bikes goes from 0.35 euros to 0.40 euros in the first 30 minutes, and in mechanical bikes, in which the first half hour is free, it would go from 0.70 euros to 0.81 euros for each 30-minute slot.

30% of the expense, to living costs

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), of every 100 euros that households spend, 32.4 euros are for the costs of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. More than double what is spent on the shopping basket, which represents 15.8% of total spending, and three times more than what is spent on paying for outings to restaurants and hotels (9.9%).

In Barcelona, public and private prices for 2026 maintain the majority of rates frozen or updated with the CPI and “some selective adjustments in specific services”, as stated by the City Council in the final stretch of 2025.

Upload the ticket to the Zoo

The current rates for Tibidabo, Endolla and other services are maintained. At the Zoo, general admission will go from 21.40 euros to 23 euros (+7%), after 7 years without review.
