New Year around the world: See New Year’s Eve times in different countries

Several hours before Brazilians celebrated the arrival of 2026many people around the world will have already celebrated the New Year.

It is the case that Kiribati, a paradisiacal country in Oceania, made up of 33 islands in the Pacific. The first turning point takes place exactly on the island of Kiritimati, the largest in the archipelago that forms the country, at 7am this Wednesday (31st), Brasília time.

Then it’s the turn of much of New Zealand, in Oceania, at 8 am. Then appear the islands of Tokelau, Samoa, Tonga, as well as some regions of Antarctica.

Already among the last to turn the year are Hawaii, American Samoa and many of the outlying islands of the United States. They will have to wait until Thursday morning (Brasília time) to toast 2026.

In total, there are 39 different time zones in use around the world – some that are 15 or 30 minutes apart, others that are more than 12 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. This means that New Year celebrations will last more than 26 hours around the world.
