The young man has been wanted since Thursday, after an alert was given to the PSP of existence of wreckage of a vehicle near the São Miguel Arcanjo lighthouse, in Nazaré.
The search for the 26-year-old young man reported missing since the early hours of December 31, in Nazaré, Leiria district, was interrupted late this Sunday afternoon, reported the .
The searches “were interrupted late this afternoon [domingo] without the victim having been found”, said the AMN in a statement.
In the search operations, coordinated by the Port Captain and Local Commander of the Nazaré Maritime Police, this Sunday, by sea, crew members from the Nazaré Life Saving Station and, by land, members of the Local Command of the Nazaré Maritime Police.
The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victim’s family and friends.
Vehicle fell into the water
The young man has been wanted since Thursday, after an alert was given to the PSP of existence of wreckage of a vehicle near the São Miguel Arcanjo lighthouse, in Nazaré.
The lifeguard station crew and the Nazaré Maritime Police were “immediately activated”, who, when they arrived at the scene, found there was a strong probability that the vehicle was in the water, so a forensic diving group was mobilized for underwater searches.
In a statement issued on Thursday, AMN added that divers detected the submerged vehicle and found that no one was inside it, nor in the surrounding area.
The searches have been resumed every morning and interrupted at the end of each day and, according to the captain of the Port of Nazaré, João Severino Lourenço, the situation should be reassessed on Monday.
