In the statement, China asks the United States to guarantee the personal safety of Maduro and his wife and cease the attempt to overthrow the Venezuelan government. Furthermore, says the Chinese government, the United States needs to ensure that this problem is resolved “through dialogue and negotiation.”
This was China’s second official statement on the case. Yesterday (3), the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already condemned the use of force by the United States against Maduro, saying it was “deeply shocked” by the action taken yesterday.
“China strongly condemns the United States’ blatant use of force against a sovereign country and its action against the president of another state,” the foreign ministry said.
