Marlon Freitas arrives at Palmeiras two weeks after the club announced the sale of Aníbal Moreno to Argentine River Plate for US$7 million
Palmeiras announced, this Sunday, its first reinforcement for the season. Botafogo’s captain in winning the Copa Libertadores and the 2024 Brazilian Championship, Marlon Freitas signed a contract with the alviverde club until December 2028.
“It’s a huge opportunity in my career, I’m very happy to be here and be part of the Palmeiras Family. I’m convinced that this marriage has already worked, I’m sure it will be a successful year for us”, commented the 30-year-old midfielder on the official Palmeiras website. “I’m looking forward to playing at Allianz Parque with the fans, getting to know my teammates, the staff, how the club works.”
Marlon Freitas arrives at Palmeiras two weeks after the club announced the sale of Aníbal Moreno to Argentine River Plate for US$7 million, an amount close to the amount spent to bring the midfielder from Botafogo. The new reinforcement will return with his other teammates this Sunday to undergo medical and physical examinations. Training will begin this Tuesday, with the return of coach Abel Ferreira, who convinced him to exchange Rio de Janeiro for São Paulo.
“I was shocked when I received his call, I was surprised. This shows confidence, for a player it is important. We talked a lot, we haven’t yet talked about the tactical part, about functions on the field, but the important thing is that I am always here to help my teammates”, said Marlon.
Graduated from Fluminense and with the experience of having played in football in the United States and Slovenia, Marlon Freitas stood out at Atlético-GO and, mainly, at Botafogo, where he played 186 games and scored five goals in the last three years. Now, he wants to help Palmeiras get back on track to titles.
“I hope to help the club return to its achievements. Every year, Palmeiras fights to win and I made the right choice. I also have this hunger, this thirst to win and I know that they will be victorious years here wearing this very heavy shirt”, said the new reinforcement.
“I can perform this role as a leader, I try to help in the best way possible and learn too. I try to help the younger ones too because I had difficulty when I came up from the base and I know the importance of having an experienced player at my side to guide. I saw the word ‘restart’ here on the CT wall and I also want to get back on the path of victories, of achievements”, he commented.
