Venezuela’s Supreme Court orders Delcy Rodríguez to assume presidency

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Venezuela ordered this Saturday (3) that the vice president Delcy Rodríguez assumes the role of interim president of the country in the absence of Nicolás Maduro, who was detained in the early hours of Saturday in an operation by American forces.

The court decision determined that Rodríguez would assume “the position of President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in order to guarantee administrative continuity and the integral defense of the Nation.”

The decision added that the court will debate the issue in order to “determine the applicable legal framework to guarantee the continuity of the State, the administration of the government and the defense of sovereignty in the face of the forced absence of the President of the Republic”.
