A year ago, the People’s Party broke the only coalition promise it could bring itself to make in the election campaign: no coalition negotiations with Herbert Kickl. At the beginning of January 2025, everything looked as if the republic could get its first blue chancellor. As is well known, the talks collapsed shortly afterwards. Now there are many reasons to be dissatisfied with the black-red-pink coalition – but it is certainly preferable to a government under Chancellor Herbert Kickl. So 2025 also had its good sides.
