Heavy snowfall worsened the conditions in the mountains: The third level of avalanche danger applies!

In the Polish part of the High Tatras, the third level of avalanche danger applies from Thursday, and the mountain service warns of very difficult conditions for hiking. Due to the heavy snowfall, most of the trails are untrodden, visibility is limited due to low cloud cover, and temperatures have dropped well below freezing. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.

According to the Tatra National Park, it is the snow cover is uneven and there is a risk of avalanches on many slopes even with a small load, in rare cases also arbitrary. Mountain rescuers recommend avoiding steep slopes and having complete winter equipment, including an avalanche kit.

There are 57 centimeters of snow on Kasprom vrch, approximately 110 centimeters in the Valley of the Five Polish Moss. Rescuers are therefore calling on tourists to postpone ascents to high-altitude terrain.
