The former athlete hung up his boots in 2017.

Kaká found a new way to stay connected to football in the Kings League, now outside the pitch. World champion in 2002 and winner of the Ballon d’Or in 2007, the former midfielder took charge of the league in Brazil, but does not have his own team or participate as a player. He is remunerated for the position, but the amount is not publicly known.

This Thursday (08/01), Kaká will take action for the first time on the Kings pitch, beating the Brazilian team president’s penalty against Qatar, in a game for the Kings World Cup Nations 2026.

Kaká: role in the Kings League

Created in 2023 by former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, the Kings League arrived in Brazil in March 2025 with a clear proposal: to rethink the consumption of football and adapt it to the logic of digital platforms. Kaká not only supported the initiative from the beginning but also led its implementation nationwide.

– The Kings League represents a new way of consuming football, and I am excited to welcome new fans to our community – said Kaká when officially announcing the competition’s arrival in Brazil, in December 2024.

Kaká’s relationship with the Kings League goes beyond an institutional position. In interviews and global league events, the Brazilian made it clear that he sees the project as a direct channel of communication with the new generations, who are strongly linked to digital.

For him, the Kings League works as an ecosystem complementary to traditional football. Passionate about the sport since childhood, Kaká states that he always looked for ways to contribute to football even after retirement. In this context, the league emerges as a bridge between its legacy on the field and a young audience that consumes sport in a different way.

This vision is aligned with the path that Kaká followed after retiring from the fields. The former player invested heavily in academic and professional training, with sports management courses from FIFA, UEFA and Harvard, in addition to the coaching license granted by the CBF. The preparation always had a clear objective: to act behind the scenes of football in a structured and professional way.

The first split of the Kings League Brasil, ending in May 2025, exceeded the organization’s own expectations. Kaká publicly admitted that the initial impact of the competition was greater than projected.

According to him, the repercussion aroused immediate interest from former players, businesspeople and sports figures, many of them curious to understand how the league works and even interested in setting up their own teams.
