The Nobel Peace Prize laureate announced on Monday that she plans to return to Venezuela as soon as possible. She left her homeland in December to receive the award in Norway, and has not returned since then. According to her, she last spoke with Trump on October 10, 2025, the day of the award ceremony. It was finally taken over in Oslo by her daughter Ana Corina Sosa Machadová in Machado’s name.

Machadová welcomes the US intervention

Trump has already complained several times that he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize. For example, on Wednesday he criticized Norway – a NATO member state – for “unreasonably” deciding not to award him the prize. Machadova said in an interview with Fox News on Monday that she would like to share the award with Trump. However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee reminded that handing over or transferring the prize to another person is not possible.

The leader of the Venezuelan opposition has previously welcomed the United States’ military intervention in Venezuela, which led to the detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. She called the operation a “huge step for humanity, for freedom and human dignity.” On Saturday, after the intervention, Trump declared that he does not plan to work with Machado because, according to him, “she has no support or respect” in Venezuela.

In Venezuela, meanwhile, current Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who is required by Washington to follow the Trump administration’s instructions, is the interim president.
