Unprecedented police intervention in Trebišov: A man was hiding an illegal arsenal of weapons and ammunition at home

The police in Trebišov charged a 65-year-old man with the misdemeanor and crime of illegal arming and arms trafficking. During a house search in the Trebišov district at the end of 2025, they discovered an arsenal of illegally held weapons, their components and ammunition. As TASR was informed by Jana Illésová, spokeswoman for the Regional Directorate of the Police in Košice, the man did not have a valid firearms license or authorization to possess weapons.

During the search, the police seized several category A and B firearms, prohibited weapon accessories and hundreds of different ammunition. Among the confiscated items were also short firearms modified for sharp shooting, home-made weapons without identification data, shot silencers, illegally modified sound moderators and combined or unprofessionally assembled weapons from several parts of different weapons.

Among category B weapons, the police found mainly self-loading pistols, signal weapons, barrels, butts and other main parts of firearms. “These weapons and their parts are subject to a licensing regime, and their possession without the appropriate authorization is against the applicable legislation,” said the spokeswoman. A lot of ammunition was also seized – from pistol cartridges of various calibers, through rifle and shotgun cartridges, to signal, flare and practice cartridges. The police also secured separate ammunition components, such as gunpowder and matches.

“The scope and quantity of the seized arsenal required thorough documentation and the involvement of experts. During the investigation it was found that The 65-year-old man had a gun license in the past, but he canceled it himself, so he did not have a gun license or a weapon at the time of the crime.” the spokeswoman added, stating that if he is found guilty, he faces a prison sentence of three to eight years.
