The governor of Rio de Janeiro, (PL), minister Paulo Teixeira and the mayor of Rio (PSD) highlighted the importance of the playwright for Brazilian television drama in publications on their social media profiles.
Confirmation of the death came through the profile of the producer Boa Palavra, on Instagram, managed by Júlia Almeida, the author’s daughter. The cause was not disclosed. He was admitted to the Copa Star hospital, in Copacabana (RJ), where he was treated for Parkinson’s Disease. According to the family, the wake will be closed, reserved only for relatives and close friends.
Manoel Carlos was from São Paulo by birth, but became known for portraying Rio de Janeiro in his works. The playwright created productions that portrayed urban and family everyday life, leaving a legacy that marked generations of viewers.
