Budapest received the leader of the scandal-plagued Lithuanian party. The meeting follows Orbán’s declaration of zero tolerance for anti-Semitism

Hungarian Minister Szijjártó held talks with Nemanu Žemaitaitis, leader of the Lithuanian Úsvit party, who is known for anti-Semitic attitudes, just two days after Orbán’s declaration of zero tolerance for anti-Semitism. Both politicians emphasized the importance of strengthening patriotic parties as hope for the future of Europe.

On Monday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó received the chairman of the Lithuanian coalition party Úsvit Nemanu (Nemuno aušra – NA) Remigijus Žemaitaitis. This was reported by the 444.hu server, which pointed out that a Lithuanian politician holding anti-Semitic views held talks in Budapest only two days after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced at the Fidesz convention that there is zero tolerance for anti-Semitism in Hungary, reports the TASR correspondent in Budapest.

  • Szijjártó received the Lithuanian politician Žemaitaitis in Budapest.
  • Žemaitaitis is known for anti-Semitic and hate speech.
  • Szijjártó emphasized the importance of strengthening patriotic parties in Europe.
  • According to Szijjártó, Europe has lost its influential role in the world.
  • Žemaitaitis was expelled from the party and parliament in Lithuania.

“Only the strengthening of patriotic parties can give hope for a more peaceful and better future for Europe,” said Szijjártó at a joint press conference with Žemaitaitis.

Support of patriotic parties

Szijjártó thanked the NA chairman for repeatedly standing up for Hungary in international political disputes when the Hungarian government was subjected to undeserved attacks or slander.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Hungarian Diplomacy, Szijjártó emphasized that “a new era of world politics has begun, and that it is based on a great global patriotic revolution that began in Budapest and gained a stunning impetus in Washington.”

Europe in a new order

“In this new world order, Europe clearly cannot find its place and Brussels has completely isolated itself, so the European Union has lost its decisive role in global politics and in the world economic system. Only a great European patriotic turn can bring about a change in this, and it is good news that this great European patriotic turn has begun. Patriotic parties in Europe are clearly gaining strength, winning elections, coming to power, and this phenomenon, the strengthening of patriotic parties, represents hope for a more peaceful and better future for Europe,” said Szijjártó.

According to 444.hu, Žemaitaitis founded his radical right-wing populist party in 2024 after he was expelled from his previous center-right party. He was also forced to resign from his seat in parliament after the Constitutional Court ruled that he had violated the parliamentary oath and the Lithuanian constitution with his regular anti-Semitic outbursts and hate speech.
