After the recent one in which Nicolás Maduro was captured and taken out of the South American country, Donald Trump’s next target is Greenlandan island under Danish sovereignty. The White House itself confirmed last week that among the “options” to take control of it.
Although the North American president has indicated that the US would need to for security reasons, the reality is that Trump’s intention is to take over natural resources that the island has.
Specifically, Greenland has in its territory large mineral deposits which are very valuable for strategic sectors such as technology or the defense industry.
However, Jakob Keiding, director of the Danish Mineral Intelligence Center (D-MIC)he highlighted, in statements to the Swedish magazine which The existing resources in Greenland should not be overvalued.
The mineral expert has expressed that “sometimes it seems that Greenland can solve the problems of the entire world, but Its minerals are also found in other places.”
In this regard, Jakob Keiding has stressed that “The problem is rather that world production is concentrated in certain countries, such as China. And a mine with rare metals in Greenland does not solve this problem if the ore is sent to China.”
Greenland sends a warning to Trump (and NATO)
Faced with the threat to its sovereignty, the Greenland Government has sent a warning to Trump this Monday through the publication of a message in which he highlighted that “cannot accept talk of Greenland being occupied by the US”. Furthermore, the Executive recalled in the note that “We are part of NATO and our defense is in their hands.”
For his part, the prime minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsenhas published another statement in which it has made it clear that “Greenland It is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and, therefore, It is also a member of NATO throughout the Commonwealth.”
