25% to any country that does business with Iran: new tariffs from the US president. China will protect its legitimate rights and interests.
The American President, Donald Trump, announced the imposition of 25% tariffs on any country doing business with Iran.
“In effect immediate, any country that does business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a 25% tariff on all commercial transactions carried out with the United States of America”, says Trump on social media.
“This order is final and without appeal”, he highlights, at a time when the Tehran regime is facing one of the biggest waves of protests in recent years, which it has responded to with lethal force, leaving hundreds dead, according to non-governmental organizations.
A China he stated opposition to “any unlawful unilateral sanction” and what it classifies as “extraterritorial jurisdiction”.
“China will take all necessary measures to protect your rights and legitimate interests“, said the spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, in a statement sent to the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post.
The spokesperson described it as “coercion” e “pressure” the US President’s initiative, another step in Donald Trump’s campaign to economically asphyxiate Tehran.
A China is Iran’s main trading partnerconcentrating around 30% of total foreign trade and 90% of oil exports, followed by Russia and India.
The financial news agency highlighted that Trump’s order could put at risk the one-year trade truce signed with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, at the end of October, following their meeting in South Korea.
